Sunday, January 26th will mark the second annual UN International Day of Clean Energy
The International Day of Clean Energy was declared by the United Nations’ (UN) as a day to celebrate the many exciting sustainable energy advancements from around the world and serves as an important reminder that there is still work to be done. In fact, the General Assembly not only stressed the importance of clean energy transitions, but also emphasized the need for greater accessibility, inclusivity, and affordability in the global energy sector in their official resolution.
What’s more, January 26th is also the anniversary of the International Renewable Energy Agency’s (IRENA) establishment. The organization began in 2009 with a mission to “support countries worldwide in their transition to a sustainable energy future,” by partnering with governments and NGOs across the globe. Now, over 15 years later, IRENA continues to provide valuable services and resources to promote an informed, cooperative, and sustainable worldwide adoption of renewable energy.
Here at Rocky Mountain Solar Co, we want to do our part to raise awareness. Yesterday, we tuned into the UN’s livestreamed event where advocates from around the world came together to celebrate the International Day of Clean Energy. Throughout the event, as we heard from many international representatives, experts, and leaders, the primary issue became very clear. It is imperative to ensure our solutions are accessible for everyone as we advance toward cleaner, safer, and more efficient energy sources. As global citizens, we need to strive for greater inclusion by prioritizing education for underserved communities, making renewable energy affordable, and raising awareness about the impacts of global climate change.
It’s important to remember that big changes begin with small steps. We want to encourage you to join the movement – whether you dedicate your life to environmental advocacy, or simply switch to an LED lightbulb, you can help us make a difference.
